the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.
Do you love the look of acetate infused with light? I do! That's why I have been experimenting with collaged acetate scrolls. In this workshop, we'll add color with paints, stencils, and stamps. Then we’ll layer in texture and dimension. I'll demonstrate how to cut out pieces of acetate and reattach them for a layered effect.
All supplies will be provided and most students leave with at least 3 projects, including 1 - 2 scrolls up to 5 feet long. These colors go down very quickly so bring paper if you like, or you can purchase more acetate in class. Confirmation, directions, and additional information will be emailed to each student upon registration.
FEBRUARY:
Bend, twist, tie, and wrap! This course will explore the versatility of wire. Sculpt using both figurative and abstract forms. There are no limits to the way soft wire can be twisted and shaped! Projects will include using fun, found objects to add a little extra “Bling.”
Acetate is really flexible and can be formed by using hot water…and it is paintable!!! Join me and discover all the great shapes and sculptural forms you can make!

Collage “Mini Class”

Collage is an extremely versatile way of making art. During this class, you will experiment with techniques like drawing, painting, layering, and cutting to create a beautiful collage that has special meaning to you.

What could be more fun than spending an evening totally immersed in learning to make jewelry? Together we will tackle the fundamentals of beginning jewelry-making using "found objects" for gems. Techniques include "cold connections" like riveting, hinges, and simple clasps.

Two hours is never enough time to get the hang of things. This “intensive” workshop lets students relax and discover the magic of painting on acetate. Activities include mixing color, working with transparency, exploring different kinds of acetate, stencils, textures, and drawing with colored glue! Bring a sack lunch, your favorite brushes, and a paint shirt! At the end students will leave with several pieces of art and “raw” materials for future collage.
